In my senior year of high school I made an animatronic bust of Abraham Lincoln for the science fair. I won First Place in Mechanical Engineering, Second Place in Electrical engineering and won the Pickett Slide Rule Best Engineering Award. (Yes, kids, back then, computing was done by rubbing sticks together!)
The Disney Imagineers, whose Lincoln animatronic robot had inspired me, invited me to WED to meet them and tour the facilities, which naturally further inspired me to continue my path of learning.
